Pumpkin Soup

When the weather gets cooler, soup is a great dish for lunch or dinner.  One of my favorite soups is Pumpkin Soup.  Honestly, the first time I tried I really thought I would hate it.  I kept trying to picture the taste being something like Pumpkin Pie and that just sounded gross to me.  Then I made it and OMG… If I would have had my old tummy, I would have ate the whole dang pot full.  It is so good and light.  Nothing at all what I thought it would taste like.  It’s become one of my all time favorite soups.

Here is a recipe from The Food Network.  It’s close to my own but I’m not at home to pull mine up so I’m sharing theirs.

I don’t put sage in mine, not sure how much it would change the taste.

Things that make you go hmmmmmm…

So I was just thinking of some things today while my mind was kinda off in la la land and I thought of some questions…

First off, I decided to make some snickerdoodle cookies.  It’s an easy recipe and the dough is chillin in the fridge as we speak.. but that got me to thinking.. Why are they called Snickerdoodles?  There are no snickers in them and you don’t doodle on them.. so where did that name come from?  Its seriously misleading!  We should sue.

The next is hippopotomonstrosesquipedaliophobia.. Whose sick joke was it to make the fear of long words one of the longest words in the English language?  Talk about needing more therapy!

Why do business call their bathrooms Restrooms?  Do people go in them to rest?  I’m pretty sure they don’t.  I mean when I have to use a public toilet… I try to be as fast as possible so that I don’t touch more then necessary.. I’m a ninja in there!

So these are just a few things that rattled through my head today…

More random thoughts…

So I was thinking today about some sayings we use.. I’ve blogged on this before but I thought of some new ones..

First one..  Best thing since sliced bread!  Okay.. what the hell????  Was life so bad before someone invented a machine to preslice the bread that THIS is the best thing they have to compare it too?  Why not “Best thing since Air Conditioning” or “Best thing since Indoor Plumbing“..I mean really.. I’m pretty damn thankful for indoor plumbing, I’d hate to have to go shit outside in the cold winter months or in the hottest part of summer… especially in a dank smelly outhouse filled with horrible smells and flies.. umm yeah.. that’s much better then sliced bread!  I’ll slice my own damn bread thank you very much!

sliced bread

Second one is.. Colder then hell… Um excuse me but isn’t hell suppose to be fire and brimstone?  Fire a million times hotter then any thing ever felt here on earth.  Shouldn’t it be “Hotter then Hell?”  I mean I know we use that one too, but who decided “Colder then hell?”… or “Colder then Shit”.. really??? Cause I’m not about to go touching shit to find out if it’s hot or cold.  I know when my kids were babies on occasion my hand got some on it but it wasn’t cold, especially after I scrubbed it under scalding hot water for 20 minutes.

hell

Third one is..Better late then never… hmmm… tell that to the innocent man who was executed for a crime he didn’t commit only to get a call 1 minute late!!!

Fourth is “You hit the nail on the head”… well where the hell else are you going to hit??? On the side.. that’d be kinda dumb… actually, I think I wrote about that one already..

yeah.. better to hit the nail then your thumb

yeah.. better to hit the nail then your thumb

and lastly.. Fifth is “all that glitters is not gold”..well D’UH!  I mean glitter comes in all colors now.. not just gold…

glitter

See.. pretty glitter… oh c’mon now.. you know you laughed on that one!

I know what I’d do

I posted this on Facebook but decided to show it on here, simply because some of my friends on FB get offended too easily… So I couldn’t say exactly what I wanted too there.

What would I do?  Well.. first I’d go pee standing up!!! The next thing I’d do is tell my husband how I just know he really truly wanted some tube steak for breakfast as I shoved my new found toy in his face until he abide my wishes..  Then I’d push his knee’s up to his ears and I’d ram that shit so far in he’d feel like I was trying to reach his tonsils.  Then I’d call in sick to work, lay on the couch and just play with my johnson all day!  It would be a perfect day!

What would you do?

500 Likes.. Thank you

Woohoo.. I hit 500 likes last night.  I wanted to say Thank you to everyone who has read my blogs and clicked the little like button!  I plan on writing for a long time to come and I hope you enjoy them.  My posts are always random, one day it may be a rant then the next a poem then the next a review then maybe a recipe.  You never know what you’ll get here from me!  Have a great day!

Crockpot Applesauce

I can’t wait for fall and apple season for this!!

What you need

8 medium apples (Use a combination of Golden Delicious, Honey Crisp, Fuji, Gala, etc.) (I filled the crockpot, using about 20 small apples)1 strips of lemon peel – use a vegetable peeler

1 tsp fresh lemon juice

3 inch cinnamon stick

5 tsp light brown sugar (unpacked) – or agave

What to do

1.  Peel, core and chop the apples.

2.  Add the sugar, lemon peel, lemon juice and cinnamon stick.

3.  Set crock pot to low and cook for 6 hours. Stir apples
occasionally, apples will slowly become a delicious applesauce.  Remove
cinnamon stick and use an immersion blender to blend until smooth or if
you prefer a chunky sauce, leave sauce intact. (I used a whisk, which gave the sauce a nice chunky consistency.)

4.  Can and process as you would other recipes or keep refrigerated up to 3 weeks.

Looks yummy
